Levi Colwill, a highly-rated Chelsea defender, has revealed that a former star under Jürgen Klopp convinced him against a move to Liverpool. The 20-year-old center-back had been linked with a switch to Anfield, but ultimately decided to stay put at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking to the media, Colwill credited the influence of a former Liverpool player in his decision-making. "He told me about the great things at Chelsea and how I would fit in well," Colwill said. "He convinced me that this was the right path for me."
While Colwill declined to name the player directly, it is widely believed that he was referring to Nathaniel Clyne. The former Liverpool right-back spent two seasons at Chelsea from 2020 to 2022, and has since spoken highly of the club and its environment.
Colwill's decision to stay at Chelsea comes as a blow to Liverpool, who are in dire need of defensive reinforcements. The Reds have conceded 28 goals in 15 Premier League games this season, the joint-most in the top six.
For Chelsea, however, Colwill's decision is a major boost. The Blues have been impressed with his performances while on loan at Brighton last season, and see him as a long-term solution at the back.
